We’ve always looked at love the way we look at art. Up close, it’s full of vivid details, moments, glances, quiet understandings that take your breath away. And from a distance, all you see is something beautiful. Like any great masterpiece, you marvel at how something so intricate and intimate can become something that moves you entirely.

While every detail of our love story is far too intricate to share (and let’s be honest, attention spans aren’t what they used to be) we ask for a little patience as we pull back the curtain.

Like any great play, our story unfolds in three acts: Act I: The Set-Up, Act II: The Confrontation, Act III: The Resolution. Let us guide you through.

Act I - The Set Up

The story begins at Valdosta State University, both De’Osha and Sean had always known of each other but didn’t necessarily have any romantic interest. Sure, he thought she was beautiful and of course she was attracted to his charm and liveliness but that was about it. During De’Osha’s senior year and Sean’s junior year, they became colleagues at VSU’s Office of Admissions thanks to Will Jimerson. Here, they got to know each other on a different level. Sean’s love for TV and film was so deep that it influenced De’Osha to watch things that she’d never considered (The Walking Dead) and De’Osha, who craves deep conversation and critical analysis, appreciated how insightful Sean could be. They quickly became friends and colleagues, and overall enjoyed being around each other. As far as coworkers go, they were a great match.

Act II - The Confrontation

Fast forward a couple of years, De’Osha and Sean somehow reconnect and give intentionally getting to know each other a shot. They were both early in their careers, and had achieved decent successes in their respective media practices. They admired each other for their commitment and drive - something that would never change. De’Osha moved into her first Atlanta apartment, Sean helped (and met her dad!) and things were going swimmingly, but if you know their story… you know that this is where it pauses. They didn’t speak for 2 years.

Act III - The Resolution

As it does, life moved on, De’Osha and Sean both continued to thrive, travel, and enjoy their lives separately. In 2018, De’Osha started a new job where she met Jamal Lewis (who just so happened to be neighbors with Sean.) De’Osha had Jamal had developed a great friendship and Jamal quickly became the older brother she never had. De’Osha would often sit in Jamal’s office and share details of her life (good, bad, ugly) and Jamal would listen, laugh and provide his insightful, sometimes insane advice.

“So what do you think about Sean?” Jamal asked one day, a sly grin on his face.

“Sean’s cool - you know we had a brief thing, right? It didn’t end well but I think he’s a nice guy,” De’Osha replied. She honestly hadn’t thought about Sean for a while but kept up with him on social media.

“Well, there might be some interest there. Y’all are both young, you have a lot in common. And he asked about you.”

“Really?”

“Yes, and my birthday is next week - I’m having brunch at Negril Village, you should come”

So De’Osha goes to brunch, her best friend Tatyana by her side, and end up sharing a table with Sean. At this moment, De’Osha realized that she’d been set up.

“Hey Sean, I haven’t seen you since you broke up with me,” De’Osha said with a mischievous glint in her eye. What other way was she supposed to break the ice?

Sean laughed in agreement and all tension melted away. They spent the rest of brunch laughing, catching up, and even extended the night by hanging out at Jamal’s house that evening. It was like no time passed at all, and the attraction was stronger than ever.

And somehow, the rest unfolded like it was always meant to. From that first moment at Jamal’s birthday party, we were drawn to each other like magnets, impossible to pull apart.

From DC to Atlanta, through a pandemic, to LA… we’ve crossed time zones and seasons, shared job losses and new beginnings, and grown through it all. Thousands of miles (and dollars), flights, months apart, and moments stitched together each one a brushstroke in the masterpiece we’ve created.

Only we know the intricate details up close, the quiet sacrifices, the belly laughs, the becoming. To the world, it looks like love. And it is. But to us, it’s more: it’s the art of forever.
